About Us

What’s a Concert Series?

No, we're not a coffee house! The Acoustic Edge is a non-profit, volunteer-run concert series. We’ve been bringing concerts to the Quinte area since 1991, providing a listening place at the "Belleville Club" for reasonably priced, quality folk, jazz, blues and acoustic music. The "Club" is an intimate, smoke-free environment perfect for good friends and great music.

The Acoustic Edge Concert Series usually offers three concerts in the spring (April, May and June) and two concerts in the Fall (October, November).<to top>

How did the Acoustic Edge get started?

Back in 1991, Andy Rush, a folk singer and teacher at Albert College, wanted to start a series of acoustic music concerts that would present this type of music to music lovers in the Quinte area. In the beginning, concerts were held on the second Tuesdays of each month in Ackerman Hall, at Albert College , where Andy was the Director of Music.

Andy’s vision for those early years of the Acoustic Edge was…

** present high quality, Canadian acoustic music in a listening environment

** give affordable access for audiences

** run it with a grass roots, volunteer organization

** provide an open stage forum to help develop local musicians

** be a non commercial, self sustaining entity.

Those same principles still guide the current volunteers in all that they do in bringing great music to Quinte.

To date, the volunteers have produced over 90 concerts featuring past Juno winners like the Whitely Brothers, Carlos del Junco, Oscar Lopez, James Keelaghan, Don Ross and Ray Bonnville.

Most concert dates are listed in "Dirty Linen", the major American folk music publication. When you’re listed in DL you know you’ve made it. And the Acoustic Edge is there.

We’re also a member of the Quinte Arts Council.
